An Approach to Resolving Differences
When working internationally, taking a long-term view and having patience is essential. It takes time to work through the process of understanding each other, resolving
differences stemming from culture, and reaching agreement. Sometimes, the laws of the host country may even have to be changed for a deal to go through or a project to go forward.
Whether working at the senior management’s level or project engineer’s level, there are three basic steps that can lead to successfully solving problems -- or better yet, avoiding them:
- Communicating respect and setting the right climate
- Establishing a collaboration
- Creating a dialog, resolving differences, and reaching agreement
